Bossington Bunkhouse

Walker-Friendly Accommodation on the South West Coast Path

Good, clean, comfortable accommodation at a sensible price — from £47.50 per person per night. Private rooms, no shared sleeping with strangers, linen and towels included. Free Miles’ Tea and Coffee, made right here in Porlock.

The bunkhouse is located within the grounds of Bossington Hall Luxury B&B in Porlock, with its own dedicated entrance, kitchen and living space. The grounds and tennis court are free to use. It is designed for walkers, cyclists and anyone who wants a proper night’s sleep on the coast path without paying luxury B&B prices.

On the South West Coast Path

Bossington Hall sits just 0.5 miles from the South West Coast Path, making it one of the most convenient stops on the northern Exmoor section of the route.

We are a few hours’ walk from the official start point in Minehead — ideal for your first or second night heading west. In the other direction, the stretch from here to Lynmouth and Lynton is one of the most dramatic on the entire 630-mile route — and one of the most demanding. There is nowhere to stay between Porlock and Lynton that is close to the path, so plan accordingly, make an early start and carry enough water.

Roughly halfway between Bossington and Lynton is the Ramblers Rest Café at the old County Gate toll house, where you can get a hot lunch at a reasonable price. A welcome stop.

The Rooms

Five private rooms are available, each bookable separately or collectively. Rooms are never shared with strangers.

Ground floor — all with access to the full kitchen and large living room with Smart TV:

Pinkery — twin room with private bathroom

Quarme — single room

Ash — accessible twin room

Top floor — shared bathroom with shower, small kitchenette (hob, microwave, fridge freezer, sink), and socialising space:

Nutscale — twin room

Oare — kingsize room

All rooms include linen, towels and free Miles’ Tea and Coffee.

Prices from £47.50 per person per night (based on two sharing). Single occupancy rates from £60–£75.

Food & Self-Catering

The bunkhouse is self-catering. Each room has access to a kitchen with hob, microwave, fridge freezer and all the crockery and cookware you need.

For supplies without going into the village, the Honesty Shop in the house stocks a small selection of frozen ready meals, garlic bread, pasta pots, beer, wine and soft drinks. Help yourself and pay via QR code or bank transfer — prices are kept as reasonable as possible.

Packed lunches can be pre-ordered — a selection of sandwiches at £4.50 each, ideal for a long day on the path. Special dietary requirements need to be requested in advance.

Practical Information

Arrival: Search Google or Apple Maps for Bossington Hall. Follow the gravel drive to the left. The bunkhouse entrance is in the porch — the Ring video doorbell will alert us if needed.

Parking: Please use the yard halfway up the drive, not the main car park which is reserved for B&B guests.

Tennis court and grounds: Free to use for all bunkhouse guests.

B&B facilities: The bunkhouse has its own dedicated facilities. The main B&B areas of the house are not available to bunkhouse guests.

Walking the Coast Path? We suggest you read this.

Bossington Hall is very close to the start of the 600 mile long SWCP – a few hours walk from the start point in Minehead. We are located ideally to walk to Lynmouth and Lynton – there is no where between Porlock (and Bossington) and Lynton to stay, close to the Path. It’s a long, hard, day’s walk to Lynmouth from here (or indeed to here from Lynmouth) so we suggest you stock up on water, and make an early start if this is your plan. Halfway to Lynton is the Ramblers Rest Cafe, set in the old county gate toll house, where you can get a hot lunch for a reasonable price.

The facilities of the B&B are not available for the Hostel guests.

honesty shop for evening meals
This is our small honesty 'shop' with a small selection of frozen ready meals, garlic bread, pasta pots, beer and wine, soft drinks as well as a few snacks. Its a help yourself system, with a QR code or bank transfer to pay. We try to keep the prices as reasonable as possible. There is an oven and crockery in the rooms.
