Breakfast at Bossington Hall

Breakfast is served in the Grand Hall — a high-ceilinged, light-filled room with views across the grounds and out towards the Bristol Channel. It is one of those mornings that invites you to linger. We serve from 8:30 to 10:00 every day, and everything on the cooked menu is prepared fresh to order.

Our breakfast has been recognised with a Taste of the West Gold Award — the same judges who gave us B&B of the Year for the South West. We think you’ll taste why.

Breakfast is always included in your room rate. With a little notice, we are delighted to cater for gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and most other dietary requirements. Please do let us know in advance.

Dogs are not permitted in the breakfast room.

The Buffet

Please help yourself to the buffet while we take your cooked order. You’ll find:

A selection of cereals — including specialist gluten free, vegan and dairy free options in the basket — alongside dried fruit, nuts and seeds. Natural Greek-style yoghurt with a selection of fresh fruit. Freshly baked French croissants and pain au chocolat. Orange and apple juice, fresh semi-skimmed milk, and thick-cut white or brown toast from Glenmore Bakery in Williton, served with Tiptree jams, marmalade, Exmoor honey and Marmite.

To drink: Miles Columbian ground coffee and breakfast tea, plus a full selection of herbal and fruit teas. Speciality coffee is available from the Honesty Bar.

Ham and cheese are available on request.

Cooked to Order

The Full English Little Oak Farm Old English sausages (GF available), Little Oak Farm unsmoked dry-cured thick-cut back bacon, vine cherry tomatoes, cup mushrooms, Heinz baked beans, and a Fenton Farm free-range egg — fried, scrambled or poached.

The Vegetarian Breakfast Vegetarian or vegan sausages, vine cherry tomatoes, cup mushrooms, baked beans and egg.

Cold Smoked Devon Trout & Eggs Blakewell Farm trout from Muddiford, North Devon — cold smoked and served with scrambled or poached eggs on thick hand-sliced wholemeal Glenmore Bakery toast.

Eggs Benedict & Variations Hollandaise over one or two poached eggs on a toasted muffin. Choose your style:

  • Eggs Benedict — with unsmoked back bacon
  • Eggs Royale — with cold smoked Devon trout
  • Eggs California — with tomato and mushrooms
  • Eggs Country — with split sausages

Lighter Options We are happy to prepare something from the above to suit your appetite — a poached egg on toast, scrambled egg with vine cherry tomatoes, BMT (bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes), or a bacon sandwich. Just ask, and it will be arranged for you.

Bossington Hall is a B&B at heart, but we have made sure you are well looked after beyond breakfast.

The Nook sits just off the main dining hall and is open 24 hours — an informal space for a quiet glass of wine, a cheese board, or something more substantial enjoyed entirely at your own pace. From the Guest Larder, you will find a selection of hand-prepared, flash-frozen chef meals — including a Taste of the West Gold Award-winning Smoked Haddock Linguine, made in small batches with lobster and cream sauce. (various other meals are available) Simple to prepare and genuinely good. Plates, cutlery, napkins are all to be found here. You may also use this area for takeaways.

 

The Quarterdeck: "Bureau Bar"

Step into The Quarterdeck, a room with the soul of a First Class cabin, built by the man who steered The New zealand Shipping Co and P&O in the 1880’s to the 1930’s

Our Bureau Bar is a curated sanctuary of West Country spirits, cellar-cooled wines, and local ciders. For your mid-afternoon pause, we serve Miles of Porlock coffee—freshly roasted just down the road and drawn to your taste.

Alongside your drink, you’ll find a selection of Lounge Provisions: small-batch crisps and a collection of classic cocoa comforts.

We maintain a tradition of trust at Bossington Hall. There are no apps or QR codes here—simply note your selection in the Honesty Ledger. If you have brought a favourite vintage of your own, please enjoy it with our compliments; we choose not to charge corkage, preferring instead that you feel entirely at home.

Gold Award Winning from The Taste of the West, this dish is indulgent and classy. Perfect for lunch or dinner, it combines smoked haddock with linguine in a rich and luxurious lobster and cream sauce, finished with coriander and a hint of zesty lemon.

From the freezer to your plate, cooking is convenient and dining a pleasure. All our dishes are hand cooked by chefs, in small batches, using the finest ingredients and nothing else.

Eggs – Fenton Farm in Holcombe Regis, Devon

“Hens in traditional free-range flocks lay our eggs. Throughout the day, these hens access green pasture and eat a natural vegetarian diet.

The hens’ excellent conditions result in exceptional quality eggs with bright yolks and superior flavour. You can find them at independent delis like Mortimer & Bennett, Partridges, and De Beauvoir Deli, as well as 5 local Waitrose stores.

In fact, our eggs have won two prestigious Small Producer of the Year awards, sponsored by Waitrose and The Times, claiming the fresh food category & best newcomer award. We also won the British Egg Council’s Small Producer Award. Finally, our eggs earned a Gold medal from Taste of the West.”

 

Sausages and Bacon – Little Oak Farm in Timberscombe, Somerset

“Little Oak Farm, our family-run business, is situated in the heart of Exmoor National Park, Somerset. We produce Rare Breed Middle White Pork from our own herd of Pigs. Naturally, our pigs are born and reared outdoors, and we farm in a traditional and ethical manner to ensure our pigs certainly have high welfare and live a good life while on the farm. Bossington Hall bacon is specially cut by us to their specific requirements.”
