Bossington Hall

Access and Inclusivity Statement of Bossington Hall Luxury B&B

Accessibility & Inclusion at Bossington Hall

At Bossington Hall, we believe that our Grade II listed heritage should go hand-in-hand with a warm, inclusive welcome. While the historic nature of our building presents certain physical limitations, we have taken great care to ensure every guest feels comfortable, supported, and at home.

Thoughtful Touches

From large-print menus and magnifying glasses available at reception to discreet handrails in our bathrooms, we have integrated a variety of aids to make your stay more relaxing. If there is something specific you require, please do ask—we are always happy to help.

Navigating the Hall

All of our Bed & Breakfast rooms are located on the first floor. While the Hall’s protected status means we do not have a lift, we have worked to make the journey upstairs as gentle as possible:

    • Easy-climb stairs: Our staircase features a lower-than-average “rise” on each step, making them much easier to navigate.

    • Spacious access: The stairs are exceptionally wide, allowing for a companion to walk by your side.

      • The Half-Landing: A sturdy resting bench and sturdy armchair is located halfway up, offering a comfortable spot to pause.

The Ground-Floor Hostel: Accessible Comfort

We have recently converted our ground-floor space into a dedicated three-room hostel, designed with accessibility at its heart. Accessed via a short ramp, this area provides level-access accommodation without compromising on the Hall’s character.

      • Accessible Facilities: One of our hostel rooms features a specially lowered bed for ease of use, paired with a spacious ensuite wetroom equipped with extensive handrails and a shower chair.

      • Shared Spaces: The hostel kitchen and common area are designed for ease of movement. While not fully adapted, the kitchen is spacious enough for wheelchair manoeuvring and features eye-level ovens and electric hobs with visual heat indicators.

    • A Wealth of Experience

Inclusivity isn’t just a policy at Bossington Hall; it is part of our DNA. Our owner’s personal life and our manager’s professional background in special needs accommodation mean that we truly understand the nuances of accessibility. We pride ourselves on a “can-do” attitude, and our staff are trained to provide support with genuine empathy and respect.

Supporting Our Community: Bossington Hall & Foxes Aurora

We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Foxes Aurora in Minehead, a wonderful local organisation that empowers young people with learning difficulties through hospitality and life skills training.

We believe in providing real-world opportunities, and last year, we’ve been delighted to have Harry join our Front of House team for his work experience placement. It has been a joy to watch him grow, and we look forward to welcoming a new placement student next year. Watch this space!

A Note on the Landscape: Exmoor is famously hilly, and we find that guests using wheelchairs usually enjoy their visit most when accompanied by a companion to help navigate the local terrain and the Hall’s historic surroundings.
